Great Performances

For Holiday Concert

- By Eddie Grant

REALITY RECORD Limited alongside Uprising Music hosted a stage show recently at the Jamaican Canadian Association on December 28, where all the artistes gave excellent performances. Among them were General Trees and Lutan Fyah the two headline acts. General Trees is no stranger to Toronto, but Lutan Fyah was making his first visit here, and judging by his performance and the crowd’s reaction he was a hit. Other artistes on the roster included Empress Minott, Nanny Mystikk, Django, Natural Fire, and Jahsmine Daley.

Empress Minott who made her appearance on the entertainment scene a couple years ago with a song “Show Me was well received by her fans. A prolific singer and songwriter who hails from the picturesque parish of Portland in eastern Jamaica, she has written several other popular songs.
Among them “Treat her Right”, and “Stumbling Block”. But the one that has really been creating a buzz recently among reggae fans is “Long time me ah Come”, which has been receiving a lot of airplay on the community radio stations.

She was in excellent form and gave an entertaining performance. She was also the first artiste to give the crowd something to get them excited after waiting several hours for the show to commence.

The first of the two-headline acts to perform was General Trees. He came on to loud applause from a crowd that was patiently waiting for his arrival as they all rushed to the front of the stage to get a close up of his performance.

They were well rewarded for their long wait as he performed several crowd favourites among them “Bible and Key”, “Hurricane Sandy”, “Lick him but nuh kill him”, “Mini Bus”, and “Gone to Negril”. He was well received. Lutan Fyah the closing act, whose appearance here was long overdue, told the audience that he loved the ‘vibes’ despite this being his first visit.

Describe by many as a roots reggae singer, he delivered a dynamic performance treating the audience to several of his well-known hit songs including “Nuh Talk”, “Falling For You”, “Informer”, “Prophet”, “Priest and King”, and “Mother Earth”.

He ended his act at about 3 am, and received a long, loud applause from the audience.
